Environmental excellence:
Deutsche WindGuard is ISO 14001 certified
Sustainability is an essential part of corporate responsibility and philosophy
Hamburg, 2024-09-24: Deutsche WindGuard has successfully implemented an environmental management system which is now certified to the internationally recognised ISO 14001. The certificate was presented to Tobias Künne, Head of Corporate Governance Deutsche WindGuard, by Christian Kockler, Managing Director at TÜV Austria Deutschland GmbH, today at the industry’s leading trade fair WindEnergy Hamburg 2024.
“As one of the most comprehensive service providers in the wind energy industry, we have always applied the highest standards to our own corporate responsibility for the protection of our environment,“ explains Dr Dennis Kruse, Managing Director of Deutsche WindGuard. For example, the company headquartered in Varel, Germany, covers a large part of its electricity demand using its own photovoltaic systems, operates its large wind tunnel in Bremerhaven with its own wind turbine and has reduced its paper consumption by 50 per cent in the last two years.
“Obtaining this certification was the logical next step for us. We have worked intensively towards this goal over the last twelve months,” says Tobias Künne. “First, we defined a catalogue of environmental aspects relevant to the provision of our services. These were quantified based on current consumption data for all areas of activity and various company sites, and we conducted a thorough risk analysis and assessment.”

The revision of all processes, the integration of the environmental management into the existing management system and the training of all employees completed the preparations.
“This intensive assessment revealed potential for further optimisation of our environmental protection measures, which we implemented straight away where possible,” adds Tobias Künne, “examples include the introduction of less environmentally harmful cleaning agents, the increased use of regional suppliers and the offer of bicycle leasing and commuter tickets to our employees.”
Simultaneously with the ISO 14001 certification, the recertification of the management system for occupational health and safety in accordance with ISO 45001:2018 was also part of the audit in early September. “Deutsche WindGuard demonstrated a very high level of awareness regarding environmental protection, occupational health and safety across all organisational units, departments and employees,” summarises Christian Kockler, TÜV Austria, “the integrated management system impresses with its high degree of maturity and many state-of-the-art solutions.”
“The ISO 14001 certification marks another important milestone in the strategic positioning of Deutsche WindGuard and at the same time motivates us to further enhance our environmental protection efforts,” Dr Dennis Kruse concludes, “ecologically responsible, sustainable economic management and the sparing use of resources are an essential part of our philosophy.”
